My work is primarily digital, but includes film photography, performance and other media. I consider interaction and participation as the shared elements in my work. I use green screen color to reveal the reality behind what has been portrayed on the surface. I am investigating the dilemmas as represented from personal confessions, expanding this to questions on life trajectory, belonging and system. I pursue a nonsensical or hilarious, yet not humorous version of living with the predicament.
My current practice is intrinsically linked to my identity as a Hong Konger. Witnessing the handover of Hong Kong from Britain to China, my personal growth was filled with quandary and increasing suppression. The freedom and local culture gained from the struggle in the colonial period, has gradually been replaced with empty words supported by invisible hegemonic violence. It is my intention to explore the vulnerability, resistance and frustration that, I believe, are cross-culturally identifiable to people's struggles for autonomy.
I hold a MFA from Pratt Institute and a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University. I spent a year at the Minzu University of China in 2014.
